Being under attack, is one the most difficult things as a Christian. We are constantly at battle with our flesh, and with the enemy who will use whatever he can to distract, deceive and destroy our walk with God. With this, I hope to help you recognize the enemy and show you the power you have to rebuke him.
Recognize our Strengths and Weaknesses
In order to fully know when we are being attacked, we must first know both our strengths and our weaknesses. As I stated above, Satan will attack every area of our lives. Whether in our strengths or our weaknesses, we are always his prey. You might say, why my strengths? The Bible warns us that, when we think we are all that and have that particular area of our lives covered, that is when we fall. In order to know and anticipate his attacks, we must be completely honest with ourselves before God, and know inside and out what our strengths and weaknesses truly are. This is hard for most, as it was for me, but in battle, you are only as strong as your weakest link. And my friends, we are all at battle. I would encourage you to pray honestly before the Lord and ask Him to reveal to you these areas in your life and then make a list. After that list is made, I would then encourage you to pray for those areas daily. Much like a war, you must have a plan to defend against any target the enemy might try to attack.
Recognize the Power of the Enemy
In battle or war, you must always know what you are going up against. In this case, the enemy is a master. He is the master of lies, deceit, deception, evil, destruction, and death. He has no limits, no age barrier, and simply does not care. While, as Christians, he can not physically touch us, he can and will use anything at his disposal to limit us from our true callings. The last thing he wants is for the Christian men and women of this world to be out doing the work of the Lord, hindering his grip on this fallen world. He relentless and he will seek to destroy anyone who he is threatened by. How do you threaten Satan? Anytime we as Christians seek the Will of God for our lives and truly take up our cross and follow God, he is threatened. He will use people, he will use family, and he will even use other Christians… yeap, other Christians. The enemy, knows the Bible, he knows every area of our lives, both our strong points and our weaknesses and he can strike in a instant. We must be on guard all the time.
Recognize the Lies vs. the Truth
This is what trips must of us up. We are constantly battling lies that the enemy repeats over and over in our heads. Our past is his biggest prey. Stop me if I am wrong, but have you ever heard this in your head. You can’t because, people will find out about your past, you can’t because you have done this and no true man/woman of God can overcome that, or you can’t because you aren’t educated enough for such a calling? The list goes on and on… you can’t, you can’t, you can’t… My friends, those voices we hear are flat out lies. Time and time again, you have heard me and will continue to hear me say that, that is because for 37 years that is what I have heard. They are lies from the very pits of hell. The truth is simple, you are atoned for by the Blood of Jesus Christ and anything that He calls you to do, He will provide a way. He will move mountains in your path, if you are willing to follow Him. He will provide for your every need, He will do it all… All we have to do is listen and obey. So the next time you are faced with “you can’t”, rebuke that in the name of Jesus Christ, because the Bible tells us that “we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength”. Don’t believe me, take a good look in your Bible and look at the people who God has used for His Glory. Most of them were misfits that chose to just obey and follow. You had Peter, who followed Jesus and then denounce knowing Him, yet Jesus forgave him and used him in a mighty way. You had Paul, (Saul) who murdered and was against all Christians, yet his life was transformed by God and the rest is history. Those are just a few, and there are many, many, more.
Recognize Your Power in Christ
This is the area you really need to listen to. We all have a power in us and that is Christ Jesus. When Jesus died for our sins and rose again on the third day, He left with us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our guide. Jesus describes this perfectly in John 16:5-16 We also have the Power of Christ within us as stated in His Word, For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ ~ Colossians 2:9-11 We have the power to move mountains with faith as small as a mustard seed as it is stated, He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”~ Matthew 17:19-21 All the power that we need, lies within us through our salvation in Jesus Christ. His death on the cross did more than just save us, it equips us by faith. There is true power, when we call on the name of Jesus. Some might call you a freak when you rebuke Satan in Jesus name, but I say freak it up! Say it with all the power God has given to you.
Proclaim Your Victor in Jesus Christ
You need to know that while you are in a battle with Satan and with the flesh, the war has already been won! That victory, came when Jesus Christ poured out His precious blood on the Cross and died for all of our sins, past, present, and future. His Blood covers all those who have called upon the name of the Lord to be saved. That blood does not wash away! It is our passport to Heaven and Eternity with our Father. You need to PROCLAIM that VICTORY daily. It is yours! While we will face numerous battles here on this earth, the War has already been won. Nothing, can take that from you! So if you are in the trenches and you are battered and bruised, or maybe even wounded, you can still proclaim your victory. GET UP and GET back in the Battle. While the war has been won, there are still many people out there who are under attack, who need to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. That is why we are all still here.
The above is not an easy fix to your life’s problems. It is not a quick fix to say that if you do this once, you will never have to do it again and again. This is a DAILY Battle that we go through. Everyday we must arm ourselves with the Armor of God! Daily, daily, daily… If we don’t, we are certain to fall under attack and to get blind sided by the enemy. A soldier would not go into battle or war without his or her protective gear on. They are constantly on guard and constantly prepared for the enemy to strike at any moment, so why shouldn’t we be?
The Armor of God
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. ~ Ephesians 6:10-18
