My Walk with Jesus Vol 29 “Playing Church”

Here is a test… stand up, now run without moving your feet.  Or if you are having trouble doing that, try this simpler task… blink without moving your eye lids.  Can’t do that either?  You might wonder what the heck I am talking about here, or what these two comparisons have in common,  but rest assured, I will tell you.

12The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:12

As Christians, we are called the Body of Christ.  As with your body, there are many different parts, each having a specific purpose, even helping out other parts of your body to complete simple tasks.  Now as we noticed above, it is impossible for you to accomplish some of the simplest of tasks without the help of another part of your body.  Now image your role in the Church or the “Body” if you will.  What part are you? The hand, foot, knee, or many even a tendon?  Each part of the Body of Christ is very important.  And without your role, or part working, it makes it very difficult to handle the task that we are ALL called to do.  And that is, to go and make disciples of many nations.  (Sharing the Gospel) Heck, forget many nations, because that scares most of us, how about we start in our own homes.

I have been so guilty of this, it is not even funny.  I have, for so long, played church… going hearing a great message, feeling the Holy Spirit moving in and around me, and yet I walk out the door and like a magic eraser, it is gone.  If we truly want change, and we truly want to see Gods hand upon our lives, our homes, and our nation, we must be willing to stop playing church and start acting on what we are hearing from God.  Stop being afraid of what everyone else might think, because the only one who matters, is the very One calling you… God.  We must stand, now more than ever and unite as the Body of Christ and start moving in one accord as the Body was intended to do…

Reflection: What is your part of the Body?  Are you playing your role?  What is keeping you from it?

Challenge: To find our role in the Body of Christ and start allowing God to use us for the purpose we were designed for.  To get up, get active, and get moving…

  1. Excellent insights! Below are a couple other verses demonstrating the need for exercise in the gifts God give us.

1 Peter 4:10-11 NIV 11 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
