Every now and then we are reminded just how short life can be. Last night my wife's uncle Billy passed away very unexpectedly and it brought to light so many things in my head, so I wanted to share some of them.
We all to often rush through life, going from place to place, work, games, etc… The pace can feel overwhelming at times. But how often to we slow down just a bit and tell the people in our lives we love them and we care about them? How often do we say things that we regret saying as soon as they leave our mouths just because we are angry? How often do we go to bed mad or angry our spouse or even our children? How often do we walk out the door to go some where after being in a fight or saying harsh words to someone you love? You get the point… More times then we would like to admit.
The Bible says our tongue is like a double edge sword, and from experience, this is so true. Once we say something, no matter how hard we try, we can't take it back. So we should learn to think before we speak. Think how could this effect this person or how you would feel if someone said this to you. Because regardless of how tough you think you are, the old childhood saying is simply not true, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but your words will never hurt me"! Who came up with that anyway? I have been in plenty of fights in my lifetime, and trust me, my cuts and bruises healed a lot faster than some of the things people have said to me in my lifetime, because every time something like that happens again, Satan attacks and replays those words in my head. So, simply think before you speak.
Going back to my original point in all this, we never know when our time will come. It could be today, tomorrow, or 50 years from now. We simply don't know! In saying that, did we show the people in our lives the love we have for them? Did we hide it away because we are to proud to show our sensitive side? Did we make up after a disagreement? I urge you to take the time… the few seconds or even few minutes it takes to show or tell someone in your life you love them, it just might be the last time they get to hear or feel it. Make each moment count… After all…. Life is Short!
